Features
The FLIR C3 Thermal Camera packs a host of professional features into a camera so thin that it fits in your pocket. The C3 includes FLIR’s popular dual camera setup, providing both infrared and visual imagery, and can combine them in real time. A first-time feature for a camera in the Cx-Series is the Wifi capability of the C3. It can form a wireless network to your iOS or Android device and mirror the C3 screen to your phone or tablet–perfect for when a coworker or customer needs to look on. This is one of our favorite capabilities of the higher-end FLIR cameras, and we’re glad to see it available in so affordable a package. The FLIR C3 includes one of the best touch screens of any thermal camera, and everything is wrapped into a rubberized exterior that is so tough you won’t even use the case.

Thermal Imaging
Built around the tiny FLIR Lepton core, the FLIR C3 camera has a thermal resolution of 80 x 60, for a total of 4800 pixels of temperature data. All captured images are stored with full radiometric data, so every pixel can be analyzed in the included FLIR Tools software, or using the free FLIR Tools Mobile app. The C3 is sensitive to temperature differences as small as 0.1 °C, and has an imaging range from 14 to 302 °F (-10 to 150 °C). The wide-angle 41-degree lens keeps a large area in view, making it easier to see an entire wall, electrical panel, or machine while standing close by. Imaging can be performed in your choice of four available color palettes: Iron, Rainbow, Rainbow HC, and Gray.

Digital Camera & MSX
In addition to the thermal camera, the FLIR C3 also includes a visual digital camera. This makes for much better documentation of the area being scanned. It also allows the C3 to perform FLIR’s patented MSX function in real time. MSX uses contrast in the digital image to locate edges of objects and writing, then embosses this data into the thermal image. The resulting picture looks much more like the world you are used to seeing, yet still contains all thermal data. Images can be saved as thermal, visual, MSX, or picture-in-picture. The FLIR C3 stores both thermal and visual images for every photo so that they can be adjusted in software later. Internal flash memory will store up to 500 image sets, and the images can be downloaded through a USB cable, or sent to your phone or tablet by wifi.

Measurements
Because the FLIR C3 infrared camera has full radiometric capabilities, it can also be used to make non-contact temperature measurements in real time. Using the touch screen you can enable a traditional center crosshair spot meter that will show the temperature of anything in the center of the image. Also available is an area box in the middle third of the screen that will automatically detect the hot or cold spot in the box. Results of either measurement function are captured in the stored image. To better account for the surface being measured, the FLIR C3 includes the ability to adjust for object emissivity between matte, semi-glossy, glossy, and a custom value. Another feature professionals will appreciate is the built-in span lock that helps exclude hot or cold objects that are not of interest.
